Entrepreneurship Immersion Week 2013
The 7th Annual Entrepreneurship Immersion Week (EIW) was hosted by Hiram College, August 4-9, 2013. EIW, nationally recognized for its innovativeness in teaching entrepreneurship, is an intensive one-week, academic experience for undergraduates from all disciplines to immerse themselves in the skills needed to help them develop new business concepts. The week culminates with a team-based business concept competition.
This year forty-six students attended academic sessions and participated in breakout sessions to explore business ideas, innovation, creativity, and networking. Each team also spent the week developing a business concept that they then presented to a panel of judges at the end of the week. The winning teams this year were: 1st Place - Ashland University, 2nd Place - Kent State University and 3rd Place - John Carroll University.
Ashland Team: C. Fox, N. Cronin, E. Bosley, H. Akoshy, CJ Hassman
Kent Team: K. Holt, H. Rahmani, J. Strenk, D. Flemister, J. Gilliland, K. Collier with EEC President K. Molkentin
John Carroll Team: G. Kaucic, R. Hoover, D. Hampton, R. Sigler, J. Zemba

What students said about EIW2013.
“I would like to express my gratitude for allowing me to be part of EIW last week. It was a wonderful experience. I have met such amazing people and have bonded well with my fellow team mates. My team and I shared some incredible experiences together that I will never forget - like going to Wal-Mart, Dairy Queen and going to Hiram gym. At the end of the week we became close friends and bonded like family. I owe it all to EIW for allowing me to meet these great people and also having phenomenal speakers share their knowledge with us.” - Lake Erie College Student
“I want to sincerely express my gratitude for the absolutely incredible experience at EIW. This was such a tremendous learning experience for me. I'm so happy I participated in EIW and I wish the EEC the best of luck next year!” - Hiram College Student
“EIW was the most intense, sleep ridden, and rewarding week of my life. The skills that I learned and the people that I was able to interact with have truly changed my life as an entrepreneur. EIW has opened so many doors for me that the only question now is, which one should I take?” - Kent State University Student
“It’s amazing how much you can learn when you really set your mind to it. We thought of an idea, developed a prototype, marketing plan, revenue streams and contacted professionals for advice and presented it to a panel of judges all within six days!” – University of Mt. Union Student
“EIW was an extraordinary experience and a highlight of my summer. Not only did the EEC provide me with the opportunity to test my business and entrepreneurial skills, but also the information necessary to be successful through relevant seminars. I left with a greater knowledge of my field and a strong network of Teammates, colleagues and advisors.” –University of Mt. Union Student (#2)
EIW2014 will be hosted at the University of Akron, August 3-8, 2014. Students interested in participating in EIW2014 should contact their school’s EEC Director for more details.
