Frequently Asked Questions About EIW 2014

What is expected of me?

It is worth pausing for just a moment to consider what is expected of EIW participants (you). We have assembled a curricula that costs roughly $1,800 per participant to produce; while we really expect to have some fun with entrepreneurship over the week, please try to take the lectures, activities, and events seriously. As you move forward with your career development, you will discover this co-curricular activity will shape your outlook on what "entrepreneurship" means and impact the career choices you make. So, "what's expected?" can be summarized with four simple statements:

Not hard to do! Be engaged (but not disruptive) during lectures:

What if I need to connect to the internet?

The University of Akron wireless network is available throughout campus including residential buildings and common areas. Instructions in how to log in to the guest network will be provided.

Where am I staying?

All participants in EIW 2014 will be staying in the Honors Dorm on UA’s main campus. You will be assigned to a double room with another EIW participant. If you require any special room accommodations, please indicate that on your EIW registration form. You will get your final room assignment when you check in between 12:30pm-2:30pm on Sunday, August 3rd.

Do I have to bring money for food?

No, you don't. All meals are provided as part of your EIW experience. Check the program guide for meal times and locations. All meals have a vegetarian option. Snacks and beverages will also be available in the Residence Hall for late night munching, however you may still want to bring money for a late night pizza run.

What should I wear?

The dress for EIW2014 for the most part will be Business Casual. You will be in business casual for the daily lectures, leadership sessions and the two evening programs on Monday and Tuesday. On average, most of your time will be spent in this attire, so please pack accordingly.

So what is Business Casual? Business Casual is best described as the neat attire you would wear to an office, a nice dinner, or church/temple.

Imagine that each day you are preparing for casual professional networking (you are!) and you want to make a good impression.

However, for the final competition beginning Friday at 9:00 am, business dress is highly recommended.

So, do we ever dress for fun activities?

All work and no play would make for a very unpleasant experience!!! So be sure to pack Casual Attire! You will definitely need casual attire for Sunday’s Team Building Activity and Welcome Dinner. Of course you will want to change into casual attire once the academic sessions are over and your team is meeting to brainstorm and work on developing your idea/concept. We ask that all casual attire be appropriate (no profanity, no revealing clothing, etc.) And don’t forget to bring workout clothes and a swim suit if you plan to use UA’s recreational facilities.

What if I need to do laundry?

No worries, washing machines and dryers are located in the Honors dorm, and its free – just bring some laundry detergent and dryer sheets with you.

What's provided? What do I bring?

All bed linens and bath towels/washcloth will be provided for you. However, here is a list of suggested things you may want to bring.
