Robert (Bob) Chalfant

Robert (Bob) Chalfant is an Akron native and Northeast Ohio boomerang, returning from Southern California in 2004 to start a sensor company in Cleveland. He has a deep technical background and 25 years experience in communications systems and consumer products including cable television, fiber optic transmission systems, digital video compression, satellite communications, crypto systems, automobile computer systems and baseball bats. His own investment in his sensor company was supplemented by funds from JumpStart, ShoreBank Enterprise Group and over 25 individuals.

He has personally sold high value capital equipment in North America, Europe, Asia and the Pacific Rim including China, Thailand, Singapore, the Philippines, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Korea, Taiwan, England, Germany, Switzerland, France, Italy, the Netherlands, and Germany. He worked with and advised engineering and sales teams and senior management to design and build products at factories in Japan, Korea, and England.

Mr. Chalfant introduced new technology from England, Japan and Korea into North America. As head of sales and marketing in 3 companies, he managed sales forces in Europe, North and South America, Asia, and the Pacific Rim. He has held management positions in Fortune 10 multinationals, foreign-owned companies, LLCs and sole proprietorships. He has his own investment and property management firm in Cleveland and has a history of supporting small business development.

He presently teaches at the University of Akron in the College of Business Administration. His courses include entrepreneurship and management to undergrads and graduate students, and co-curricular activities. He also volunteers his time to coach entrepreneurship at K-12 levels in Cleveland Public Schools and a local parochial school.

Bob graduated from Archbishop Hoban High School in Akron, served in the US Navy aboard the USS Mahan in Vietnam, graduated from Ohio University cum laude with a degree in electrical engineering, and earned his MBA from Harvard Business School. He has served on the board of 4 private companies as well as the American Liver Foundation and Red {an orchestra}, and is a frequent blood donor. He particularly enjoys long distance motorcycle touring on his BMW, on which he has visited all of the lower 48, and 6 Canadian provinces.
